Storyline: 3 Stars

I did not really know what my expectations should be going into this book. I had read so many positive reviews and heard so many positive thoughts about the book, but I am always skeptical of the books that become really popular. I would not say that it was a bad book, but I would say it was overrated compared to all the raving reviews that it received. I thought that the story was just okay.

There was not really anything surprising or new or intesting. All the plot points were pretty basic and could be seen a mile away. I did appreciate that the main twist happened earlier in the bookd because it was so obvious that putting it off longer would have made it more ridiculous. With that being said, the main twist was not all that interesting and it was predictable. I heard from some others that they were very emotional while reading, but I was nowhere near crying. Maybe I have just read too many books like this one!

I think where the book shined the most was in its characters. They were well established and their personalities were different. I do think the author did a good job of establishing difference voices in the book, which I think a lot of books do not do very well with alternating point of views.

Parental Guidance: 75% Recommend

I would recommend this book 75% of the time. For the most part, it was a fairly clean book. There were not any inappropriate scenes or violence scenes. However, there was quite a bit of swearing, especially from one of the main characters. The character did use the “f” word quite a few times. I understand that the book was trying to convey the difference in the characters, which was done well, but it it something to be aware of before reading. IF swearing is something that you want to avoid, I would not recommend this book.

Real Book Chat

*Spoilers Ahead*

I knew almost immediately that the two main characters were related, especially as the time table started solidifying of when everything happened. It was obvious, and although I appreciate that the mystery did not lag on forever, it was still a bummer that the most interesting part of the book was so obvious.

I just thought the book was okay. I didn’t not have that many intense thoughts or feelings about it. I did have a friend read this book who said they cried at the end of the book, but I just didn’t get it at all. I was nowhere near crying or being emotional at all at any point in the book. Maybe I have read a few too many books with this type of plotline, but I don’t think it was an emotionally charged book, and that is okay.
