Storyline: 4 Stars
This trilogy has been on my radar for several years, and I finally got around to reading it. I remember when the first book came out, and I decided to wait until the whole series was out to read it. I have been burned too many times in the past with good first books and horrible later books to be tricked! However, I would say that The Cruel Prince trilogy got progressively better throughout the series.
I would say that these books might be slightly overrated, but they were still good. There was plenty of world building and fun fantasy parts othe book. The characters were fine, although I was not a huge fan with the main love interest. If you enjoy classic young adult fantasy, this will probably be a fun read, but don’t go into it thinking that the trilogy will change your life.
Parental Guidance: 65% Recommend
I would recommend this book 65% for the content. The language was very mild, I don’t recall any swear words in the whole trilogy. There was some violence, but it was not descriptive at all. The fight scenes were so quick and not explicit at all.
There were rainbow characters, although nothing is shown between them outside of conversations. There was also kissing and implied intimacy, although nothing is explicit, and it took place between a married couple. I only had to skip a paragraph or two while reading.
Overall, a fairly normal young adult book for mature teenage or older readers.

*Spoilers Ahead*
Okay, to be honest, I was expecting more from Cardan. I had heard so much about the love interest in the book and I thought I would like the romance. To be honest, I did not like Cardan. I can get over the love interest being someone that I personally would not be interested in, but I can’t get over a love interest that no one in their right mind would be interested in. I get that Cardan had a hard childhood, blah blah blah poor little prince. But that’ snot excuse to bully everyone around and play with girls around him and use other girls to make some other girls jealous. That scene where Cardan was kissing a girl and staring at Jude? Ick. Big Ick. Sure, I guess he got better throughout the series, but not that much better.
The whole Madoc and Jude dynamic was so weird. That’s all I’m gonna say. And the sister relationship were interesting too. Taryn was a piece of work and I have no idea what she saw in Lock.
Despite the flaws, the world was interesting. I have not ready many modern day fantasies, where a fantasy world takes place in today’s time, so that was a unique aspect to the story. I was trying to picture in my head where these fairies supposedly lived on our planet, but eventually I just gave us and enjoyed the story.
