I honestly did not know what I was getting into when I read this book. The cover looks absurd and I knew in general what dark matter was, but that was about it. I was pleasantly surprised with the book! It was unreal. The concept behind it is complicated in theory, but the book really helped simplify how it all worked. The book had a lot ot twists and turns that I was not expecting. I have been into the obscure thrillers with interesting concepts, and this one did not disappoint. I don’t even know what type of genre I would place this book in, but it was thrilling and I read it in a day because I was so hooked!
The storyline was thought provoking, and it makes you think about how lucky we are to be living the life we are living. It was somewhat similar to “The Midnight Library” for those that have read that book, just with some more twists. Not the exact same concept, but a similar message.

Dark Matter is definitely geared towards adults, although there was not as much inappropriate content as I would have expected. There was kissing and implied intimacy, but only a paragraph or two that I had to skip while reading. There was nothing graphic when it came to the romance in the book which was a relief because adult books usually do.
There were some swear words, along with “f*ck”. They were infrequent, probably about 8-10 instances in the whole book. On top of that, there was some violence and uncomfortable scenes related to that, but it was not too graphic. I wouldn’t recommend the book to a child, but it was fairly clean for an adult book.

*Spoilers Ahead*
Like I said above, I really did not know what I was getting into when I read Dark Matter. I was pleasantly surprised. It was weird and creative. I don’t know much about actual dark matter and the theories behind it, but I have read enough books to sort of understand what was going on.
Part of the book reminded me of the classic, The Time Machine. The classic was about the 4th dimension, whereas this one was about the supposed 5th dimension.
One thing that I liked about this book was all the different twists. First, Jason is in a new environment. Second, Jason is looking for his family by using the box. Third, he gets to his right world and has to defeat and outsmart the other Jasons. I was actually glad that the box was revealed early because that part was easy to guess, but there was so much more than just the discovery of traveling through the multiverse.
One thing I wondered was about Amanda. In the original Jason’s world, Amanda left, but I wondered why there were no Amandas around in Jason’s original world by the end. There weren’t any versions where Amanda stayed with Jason? Outside of that, I didn’t have many problems with the plot. I knew that it was science fiction thriller so I knew many of the plot points would not be realistic.
