Storyline: 4 Stars

I read the whole trilogy, and it was a whirlwind! If you are wanting a book with a really solid plot and substance, this book is not for you. However, it is very whimsical and the world is fun and the romance gets you sucked in! It’s a fairytale, and that’s exactly what you get.

For a fairytale, I really enjoyed it. The romance was not annoying, the characters were good, the world and setting were interesting, and there was not much that I did not like. Plus, there are so many elegant dresses throughout the whole series if that is your thing.

Parental Guidance: 80% Recommend

I would recommend this book 80% of the time for parental guidance. There was really nothing inappropriate in the book, but there were cases of romantic scenes and some violence. The romance was mild, mostly just kissing and holding each other, but it was not graphic and it never went beyond that. It was typical romance of what you would expect in a young adult series.

There was some violence, but that was also mild and it was fairytale violence. It was not realistic at all and more for the suspense and drama than for it to be graphic or shocking.

There were some insults, but no strong swearing in the whole series. The language was very mild and typical for a young adult series.

*Spoilers Ahead*

As I mentioned above, there was no substance to this series. It was much like Once Upon a Broken Heart in that way. There were plot holes and things that did not make sense, but honestly because I knew that going in I did not care.

I think I like Jacks more now that I read his backstory. I do wish that I would have read this series second so that I would have read it in chronilogical order, but really I did not miss out by reading it afterwards. I think that’s actually a really cool aspect with Garber’s two series. The world is the same and some of the characters, but there is not much missed if the two series are not read in chronilogical order.

Also, I’ll probably never look at apples the same way again.
