Storyline: 3 Stars

I read the whole trilogy, and unfortunately it was a trilogy that started with the best book. The idea of a school project and solving an old case was intruging, and although a little unbelievable, it was entertaining and enjoyable.

The second two books were unbelievable in many different ways. The second book was better than the third, but even the second was not as good as the first. I understand that trilogies usually work well, but it was all a little unbelievable that these three separate, huge events took place in the one town.

It was entertaining, but there was not much substance.

Parental Guidance: 65% Recommend

With the book being Young Adult, the biggest red flag was the swearing. The swearing increased as the books continued, starting with only hostile characters swearing and eventually leading to the main character swearing. The “f” word was used, which followed the pattern of being used more in the later books.

There was a relationship that involved a few kisses here and there, but that was the extent of it. Rainbow characters were mentioned, but nothing occured and most of the time I forgot those characters were even rainbow.

Overall, I would recommend the book 65% of the time.

*Spoilers Ahead*

First book was great. Of course it was unbelievable with it being young adult. Pip was able to get away with so much. However, it was fun and the mystery was intriguing. I really didn’t have much to say about the first one.

The second one was as unbelievable as the first, but even more so. You’re telling me that the Andie Bell murder took place in the town that a famous witness protection program witness was living in? And it was all connected because the drug dealer spilled the beans? And what was Stanley doing being friends with Howie . . . if all the people he had loved in his past spread the rumor he did not think that a drug dealer would do the same? I was annoyed with some of the stuff, but it was harmless and mostly entertaining.

The third book I could not stand. Pippa was a complete idiot! She went on runs and walks alone when she knew there was stalker, she kept everything from her own parents because they didn’t believe her about the pigeons, and same with the police. Pippa . . . your parents and the police would probably have believed you if you told them about the recent calls and then told them about Andie’s email and of course Andie’s secret friend who had a sister that said the same things happened to her. I mean . . . come on.

Then Pippa murders Jason Bell, which is wrong but could also be understandable as self defense, and she decided to frame Max Hastings for it? What the heck. With all the evidence against Jason she really thought that the police was so stupid and stubborn that they would not connect the doors that Jason was the DT killer? There was literally duck tape around Pippa’s face. And all the trophies at his house. I just could not take Pippa seriously.
