Storyline: 5 Stars
This was a great fantasy series! I read the first one for a book club and then I cruised through the other two books very quickly. If fairytale books is your thing, then this is the book for you.
Once Upon a Broken Heart is written for a junior high or high school audience, but it can definitely be enjoyed by older readers. There’s magic, fantasy, true love, and every other fun fairytale thing that can be imagined. It’s definitely not for everyone, just those that like cheesy fairytales.
Parental Guidance: 70% Recommend
I would recommend this book 70% of the time for parental guidance. There was not much that was inappropriate, but there was romance. There was nothing more than kissing, but there was a lot of romantic tension throughout the series. It was definitely PG, but a lot of the book revolved around the romance which is not surprising based on the names of the books in the series.
There were a few swear words, but not many. There were a couple instances of “b*tch” in the last book, but that was about it. The language was not vulgar.
There was violence and magic and violence by using magic, but it was nothing graphic.

*Spoilers Ahead*
I’m obsessed. My book club members and I were obsessed while reading these books. They are the type of book that I would have been obsessed with in high school. I loved the characters and the world. Sure, there were definitely plot holes, but I was not reading it for the plot to be perfect.
Because what happened to the last kiss that Eva owed Jacks? Or Marisol and Luc and Apollo’s brother? And how did love beat the curse? Some of it was confusing and didn’t make a lot of sense, but the characters were worth it.
Jacks is the sort of love interest that you want to dislike, but you just like him. He’s the type of guy that would be horrible in real life but in the book he’s great.
