Storyline: 3 Stars
I read Foundation because I like to read a mix of older and newer books. Foundation is a classic science fiction book. The concept is interesting, but I’m glad that it was only 250 pages. The book is one of those that I am sure many follow-up science fiction books have used for inspiration, but in itself it was not that great. I have it stars for the ideas and the world, but there were no great characters and it really through me off that there was such massive time-jumps.
The good part about Foundation is that it is short. A lot of classic books are long and unconcise, but this book was the length that it needed to be for what it was. I appreciate that there were not long pages of description and details. instead, the 250 pages all contribute towards the story of the book. I probably won’t read the sequels, unless I am inspired someday, but I am glad I picked up the original.
Parental Guidance: 90% Recommend
I would recommend Foundation 90% of the time based on the content. There were a few and far between swear words, but nothing more than “*ss” or “d*mn”. The language was mild. There was some violence, but it was more in theory or summary than it was graphic. The reader knows there is violence based on the reader being told certain events happen, but nothing more than that.
This was a classic read that I think even middle schoolers would be able to read if they have a higher reading level. There were some science and political concepts that might make it difficult to understand until an older age, but I would give Foundation to a middle schooler if they really wanted to read it.

*Spoilers Ahead*
I have read a lot better science fiction than Foundation, but as I said above the book is a classic in the genre, and I am sure many of the news books take inspiration from it. The concept was cool, the breakdown of a large empire, and the politics were interesting, but it was missing a lot of things that make a book great.
The biggest problem I had with Foundation were the characters. There were a lot of characters since the book takes place over a long period of time, but the reader does not really get to know or care about the characters. I certainly didn’t care about the characters. The characters are supposed to be historical figures, so I understand that their purpose, but because of that it won’t be a book that makes a huge memorable impact on me.
