Romance

There was no romance in this book. The main character befriended a female humanoid creature, but there was nothing romantic between them.

Violence

There were a few scenes of violence, but the descriptions were not graphic. One humanoid creature was seen to be eaten, there was a fire that killed a humanoid creature, and there was fighting between the main character and creatures.

Language

There were not any harsh swear words. The language was similar to most books written in the late 19th century. The language is proper without much dialogue.

Drugs and Alcohol

Some characters leisurely drink together as part of a social gathering, but no one gets drunk. The alcohol is barely mentioned.

Diversity

There are a few human characters in the book that are friends, and they are all men listening to the time traveler’s story. The story involved only the time traveler and many humanoid characters that are both male and female.

Demographic

I would recommend anyone to read this book over the age of 12. There was nothing graphic for children younger, but the 18th century writing style may be difficult for a child younger than 12 to read. If a child is especially advanced in reading, I think it would be a good read for them. The book is very short, so if someone is new to late 19th century or beginning of the 20th century writing it could be a good one to start with.

Storyline

I watched the really old The Time Machine movie, and I am happy to report that the book is much better. I appreciate that the time traveler makes assumptions about the society in the future that makes sense and could give an explanation to the development, but the assumptions are not the absolute truth. Of course there are a lot of unrealistic parts of the book, especially with how science has progressed, but it was still really interesting! I love reading a good classic every once in awhile.
