Romance

There were less romantic scenes in this book than The Housemaid. Although the main character has a boyfriend and stays at his place often, there are not even any scenes of them together there. Two side characters have an affair, but it is not descriptive.

Violence

There were a few descriptions of domestic abuse in the novel, but they were less gruesome than in the first book of the series. A character is murdured using a gun, one character’s throat is cut, and another character overdoses on a medication that causes their death.

Language

The language was similar to the first book. There may have been one or two F bombs, but they were infrequent and the other language was mild.

Drugs and Alcohol

Similar to the first book, some of the characters casually drink wine or some other drink, but there are no instances of anyone being drunk.

Diversity

The book takes place in New York City and has a variety of rich, poor, men, women, domestic, and international characters. The characters were fairly diverse.

Demographic

The book is for adults, but I would also say that it could be appropriate for teenagers if the domestic abuse would not be triggering.

Storyline

The structure of the book was basically the same as The Housemaid, and once again it was easy to predict who the real “bad guy” in the book was going to be, but it was for sure entertaining and I enjoyed reading how everything unfolded.
