There was not much romance outside of one scene of kissing that was a paragraph or two, but I will warn you that there is a love triangle. I get annoyed with love triangles at this point because it is overused. Plus, in this book, it is a love triangle between brothers. I don’t want to spoil anything, but if you roll your eyes while reading, you will probably roll your eyes reading this one.
Violence
There is one scene where the main character gets shot at, but there is no other violence. There are threats and times where I thought there might be some more violence, but there really was not much.
Language
There were not any harsh swear words. The one great thing about most YA books is that the language typically is not strong. Sure, some of the language is cheesy, but at least it was not bad.
Drugs and Alcohol
One of the brothers who is a part of the love triangle drinks quite often. He is introduced when he is drunk, and he is in that state several more times. He is underage and walks around shirtless when he is drunk.
Diversity
There are two gay side characters that the main character gets to know over the course of the book. There is not too much agenda along with that and there are not any intimate scenes between them.
Demographic
The book is for Young Adult readers, which are typically ages 13-18. I would say that would be the appropriate age for the book considering the lack of romance and strong language.
Storyline
I thought that the story was okay. The idea was quite interesting with a rich man disinheriting his family and some of the puzzles were okay, but it was difficult for me to get past the love triangle. I could not understand why the main character was drawn to the two brothers and I rolled my eyes more than I would have liked in the book.
